I was one of the thousands of women who dreamed of having a job while taking care of my children. My life as a mother was simple, but I felt like something was missing. I wanted to be able to buy my kids’ needs with my own earnings, take them out to eat, and give them the things they wanted. That’s when I decided to find a job. The BPO industry became one of my top choices, even though it wasn’t related to my degree.
At first, it wasn’t easy. I had to learn new terminologies, rules, practices, and processes. I worked as a call center agent for almost nine years, handling the graveyard shift. Every day, I would wake up three hours before my shift to make sure my duties as a mother were taken care of while also avoiding being late for work. Looking back, I can’t believe I managed to do it, commuting daily and balancing both responsibilities.
Working in the BPO industry, particularly in telecommunications billing and sales, taught me a lot. Active listening and patience are crucial when dealing with different types of customers. It’s important to understand their concerns, show empathy, and provide assurance while finding the best solutions for them. The goal is not just to resolve their issues but also to leave them satisfied with the way you handled the call. Criticism is part of the job, and learning to accept and grow from it is essential for personal and professional development.
Being a working mom is incredibly challenging but also rewarding. It requires a delicate balance between career aspirations and family responsibilities. Like many working mothers, I have found my own way of managing it all. One of the key skills I have mastered is time management—becoming an expert in organizing my schedule, meeting work deadlines, and squeezing in household tasks. However, this journey also comes with personal sacrifices, such as giving up social time and losing sleep. Despite these challenges, I take pride in my ability to contribute professionally while caring for my family. Being a working mom means constantly adapting, learning, and finding what works best for my unique situation.
Working from home has been a unique experience that has taught me valuable lessons both professionally and personally. It has helped me develop self-discipline and strong time management skills, adapt to changing circumstances, communicate effectively, stay motivated without external supervision, take on greater responsibility, and embrace technology.
I am especially grateful for the opportunity to work as a Customer Support representative at Montani. Having the chance to work from home has been a blessing. While I initially found it challenging—mainly because support and answers to my questions were not always available in real-time—I soon realized the advantages far outweighed the difficulties. I can work while taking care of my kids, spend more quality time with them, and no longer worry about commuting or the weather.
This is why remote work is a great advantage for people who want to fulfill their responsibilities while maintaining a job. It offers flexibility, a better work-life balance, and financial savings, making it an ideal option for many.
In the end, being a working mom—especially in a remote setup—has given me the best of both worlds. It has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of balance. While challenges will always exist, the opportunity to provide for my family while being present in their lives is truly fulfilling. I am grateful for the growth, the lessons, and the support that make this journey possible. With dedication and the right mindset, I believe that any working parent can thrive, finding success both at home and in their career.
