Early hunter-gatherers spent only 3 to 5 hours per day on what we now call work — providing food, shelter, clothing, and tools. Fast forward to today’s world, where people work twelve hours per day, six days per week.

An agile team is a modern league to work in the ever-changing and fast-paced workplace. It is designed to be more collaborative, social, and fast-moving. The beauty of working in the agile team is that :

  • Individuals have the potential to work on different kinds of tasks
  • Specialists can influence and motivate new employees.
  • Ownership of particular work areas will encourage commitment and higher quality of output.

Work is so common but so different that whether or not what one does for a living is rewarding makes a huge impact on one’s overall satisfaction.

What the Organization wants VS What the Individual needs

People become frustrated, cynical, and demotivated when their priorities are conflicting or their goals are unclear, meaningless, or arbitrarily shifting. What employees want in an agile environment is a sense of control in their work:

  • Able to influence priorities in their own job
  • The priorities are clear and have access to reliable information so that he can make decisions in the absence of their co-worker.
  • Understanding how they add value to the company.
  • Enough time to train and understand business information
  • Recognition of their achievement and tolerance of their mistakes.
  • Include in the team discussion and consultation so that they can make inputs to improve ways to work.

People usually spend a large part of their existence making a living. Sigmund Freud's advice when asked for his ingredients for happiness — “Work and love”. Most jobs are not designed to make employees happy and strong. Their purpose is to make money for someone else, but people who learn to enjoy their work and find meaning can transform their experience productively and may end up feeling that their lives as a whole have become much more worthwhile.
